Warn your children against cultism, Lagos CP tells parents

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, Thursday appealed to  parents to warn their children and wards against cultism, threatening that anyone nabbed in cult-related crimes would face severe consequences including long jail term.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting with traditional and religious leaders in  Alimosho Local Government Area, the CP warned that gone were the days when hoodlums arrested and arraigned in courts for cultism were discharged with little penalties, only to return to the community and continue with their violence and illegal acts.

He said: “It is not going to be so any more, I now have the antidote when we take them to court .

I intend to prosecute them diligently and send them to jail. If you don’t want your child or ward to go to jail please when you get back home go and warn them. Anyone caught in cultism will have him or herself to blame.

I have drafted two teams from the command anti-cultism unit to report to the Area Commander  to  start from today.”

We are strengthening the Area Commands to enable us carry out raids in all areas we hear that cultist are. We will fish them out even to their homes.”

He disclosed that part of the discussions with the Chief Judge  of the state,  during his recent visit bothered  on how cultists  and hoodlums  arrested and arraigned in court were  allowed to go with little penalties.
