Shi’ites Leader, El-Zakzaky Speaks From Detention

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has calmed his followers’ frayed nerves, after he spoke from detention that he is alive and getting better, theCable reports.

The Shi’ites leader made this known during his first public appearance in over two years.

El-Zakzaky, who is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), spoke with journalists on Saturday, January 13, in Abuja.

“I am getting better, thanks to all your prayers,” said the Shi’ites leader who wore a neck brace while addressing journalists.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after the Shi’ites and the Nigerian army clashed in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Over 300 people were said to have been killed as a result of the clash.
The group has held series of protests over the continued detention of El-Zakzaky.
