My husband can eat a bucket of rice, but won’t leave a dime for food, woman tells court

A woman, Ajoke Badmus has told Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, she’s no longer interested in her 25-year-old marriage to her husband, Yusuf Badmus.

Ajoke in her divorce suit stated that her husband was irresponsible, uncaring and fond of accusing her of infidelity. She told the court she had had enough of her husband’s careless lifestyle and thus pleaded that it separates them.

“My lord, I have been playing the role of breadwinner since I got married to my husband 25 years ago and my husband feels quite comfortable about it.

“I work round the clock to ensure we have food on the table every day. Our children have stopped asking him for their needs a long time ago because he would always shout at them and ask them to come to me.

“I single handedly train our children in school. Two of them are presently in the higher institution. He doesn’t know what course they are studying and how their tuition fee is paid.

“He can consume a bucket filled of rice or beans, but he will never leave a dime as feeding allowance.

“The most annoying thing is that he never ceases to accuse me of adultery. He frowns and gets mad any time he sees me chatting with a male customer in my shop. His belief is that I’m sleeping with every man that patronises me.

“He sometimes beats me mercilessly and tears my clothes into shreds when I point out to him his irresponsible acts. He has almost turned all my clothes into rags.

“He has been threatening to deal with me ever since he was served a court hearing, “she stated.

The defendant refused to show up in court after being served a court   hearing twice.

Giving his judgment the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade terminated their union.

According to him, their children are free to stay with either of them since they are grownups.
