More security agencies to be deployed to benue says-IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, as part of the efforts of the Federal Government to put an end to the incessant killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue state, is set to visit some of the troubled villages including Tunga, Guma and Logo.
The IGP said the visit is based on the allegations by Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state that militiamen attacking farmers in Benue State are camped in Tunga village of Awe local government area of Nasarawa state.
When I was in Benue, the Governor of Benue State made some allegations about Tunga. But the people in Tunga said they don’t have any problem. But, I am going there to see things and ensure that peace and harmony is restored in that place,” he said.
The Police boss told Channels Television in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital that the visit will enable him to get firsthand information about the allegations so as to address the issues headlong.
He said further that special police forces including special investigative team have been deployed to Benue State.
“I have deployed 10 mobile police units to Benue. I have deployed one unit of special force to Benue. I have deployed various investigative teams in those locations where we are having these allegations.
“Now, I am moving down to Tunga, Guma and Logo in Benue and Nasarawa State. Our activities are to ensure that I see things on the ground myself,” he said.
