The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu has commiserated with families of security operatives and civilians who were attacked by Boko Haram terrorists during an oil exploration assignment in Borno state.
Briefing newsmen over the sad incident yesterday in Abuja, Dr. Kachikwu promised to do everything possible in ensuring that families of the deceased are supported at this difficult time.
Fielding question on why the ministry embarked on the exploration knowing the security challenge in the area, the minister noted that the ministry got security clearance to that regards.
He added that the team had been on ground in the area for about 6 months before the unfortunate incident.
Kachikwu further noted that exploration activities in the Lake Chad Basin in Borno state have been suspended until the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation gets sufficient clearance to resume its oil search in the region.
The Minister further revealed that there were casualties but authentic data to that regards has not be officially disclosed.
